Our StorySetting change in motion.
|
Today, there are a variety of services and systems in place that were originally designed to aid communities affected by child abuse. In many cases, these services and systems are struggling to keep up with changing needs, often prioritizing support after harm has occurred rather than focusing on preventing violence in the first place.
These fundamental challenges have created a rare opportunity for us to collectively re-imagine the ways in which these services and systems operate—leading us to ask and answer an important question: What if there were a non-profit group devoted to uniting people with lived experience and prevention-minded organizations; a group that exists for the express purpose of collaborating to create stronger, healthier communities for the parents and children in Oregon? There is. Welcome to Prevent Child Abuse Oregon (PCAO)! |
PCAO draws together partners to develop and implement innovative solutions for preventing violence and abuse. |
In addition, we strive to promote health and address disparity, while encouraging the growth of meaningful connections among people and organizations who have a stake in child and family wellbeing.
At PCAO, we believe that we all become stronger when everyone’s voice is heard. That’s why we seek to amplify the voices and perspectives of survivors of child abuse and those with lived experience of the child welfare system. Through deep listening and intentional partnership, we can honor the resilience of our communities and build on the solutions being championed by those with first-hand experience. |
We bring people together to nurture communities where children and families can thrive. From the many disconnected pieces, we knit together a big-picture perspective that makes a cohesive approach to violence and abuse prevention possible. PCAO also works closely with community partners and donors, and advocates at the legislative level for policies that are guided and informed by families and communities.
Healthy children, families, and communities are critical to Oregon’s future. It’s a future we invest in, every day. |
